Defeat of the Iroquois, 1609, by Samuel de Champlain
The Habitation at Port Royal, 1605.
drawn by Champlain
This structure is similar to fortified
farm hamlets in France, and elements such
as door and window frames and lintels
were brought out from France, which
explains its geometrical regularity
compared to the habitation at Quebecq,
constructed entirely from what was
locally available.
